CAN MY CHILD WEAR ARMBANDS? Your child, no matter how young or how new to swimming they are, will never wear armbands in a Swim Academy lesson. We want to teach your child to swim independently and how to be safe in the water. There are compelling reasons why we don’t use armbands: If your child fell into water when on holiday or even just on a riverside walk with the family, they probably won’t have armbands on. Their experience in their swimming lessons needs to be as realistic as possible. Water safety is a core building block in our lesson plans and everything your child learns will, unbeknown to them, be teaching them vital life-saving skills. We teach our children to swim beautifully. Technique is ingrained at every level and wearing armbands hinders this. Your child will learn to swim on the surface of the water, gracefully and efficiently. If they wear armbands, they will not be aligned in the water. Their top half will be bobbing above the water, forcing their bottom half to dip down, making the alignment required for independent swimming all but impossible. Non-fitted buoyancy aids (such as floats or woggles) allow children to push away from them when they are ready to be independent whereas fitted aids (arm bands) require an adult to deflate them. Swimming Victoria and researchers at Federation University Australia would like to hear about girls’ experiences training and competing in swimming. With consent from parents, participants will answer a short anonymous survey, after participating they can go into the draw to win a Coles/Myer gift voucher. Participants will be asked questions about participation in sport and how sporting clubs can better support girls through periods/menstruation. All girls can participate whether they have started their period or not. This study aims to inform sporting organisations, coaches, parents and players on how to support girls better manage their period when training and competing. This is important because periods are a part of life and having your period shouldn’t hold you back. As called out in Swimming Victoria’s Women & Girls Action Plan, SV will “Provide education/workshops/development days for female swimmers and their coaches around: Adolescent development, and the menstrual cycle. This survey will help inform the development of these programs. Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/g_S8VG7i

SUMMER - SWIMMING - POOLS - CHILDREN Summertime is all about having fun and for so many families it is the time to enjoy swimming in the pool. But it is also the time to be extra vigilant when children are playing in and around water. General Drowning Facts: * No one is drown-proof, and drowning doesn’t discriminate but children are more susceptible to unintentional drowning. * In the United States, more children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death and for children ages 5–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes. * Drowning is fast and silent. It can happen in as little as 20-60 seconds. and it doesn’t always look like we would expect. Many times there is no splashing to alert anyone when a child is in trouble. Key Tips to Help Protect Your Children: * Learn to Swim - Learning to swim can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent for 1 to four-year-olds who take formal swim lessons. * Barriers Work - Four-sided isolation fences, with self–closing and self–latching gates, around backyard swimming pools are a first line defense to keep children away from the area when they aren’t supposed to be swimming. * Wear Life Jackets - Make sure kids wear life jackets in and around natural water bodies, such as lakes or the ocean, even if they know how to swim. Life jackets can be used in and around pools for weaker swimmers too. * Stay Vigilant - Close supervision is required when kids are in or near water (including bathtubs), at all times. Drowning happens quickly and quietly. Unintentional drowning is preventable. Learn more about drowning and prevention programs. It’s a challenge to avoid distractions, but children need the undivided attention of adults when they are near or in water. #watersafety #poolsafety #childrendrownings #learntoswim #poolsafetytips

Join the mission: Creating lifelong swimmers for a healthier future. The importance of swimming isn't confined to the domain of sports 🏊♀️💡 It's an essential life-saving skill with immense health benefits, yet many of primary school pupils are not given the opportunity to learn. Shockingly, 1 in 3 primary school children in England lack basic swimming skills. It's time to dive into action! We can bridge this gap through a collective effort 😊🤝 At our organisation, we don’t just teach kids to swim - we help them build lifelong habits for physical and mental well-being. Swimming is for everyone! We believe it is our mission to make swimming education inclusive and adaptable to children of all abilities and backgrounds. Let’s create a future where every child feels safe and confident in the water. 📣Educators, teachers, and schools📣 Check out our Swim:ED programme and learn how to get involved in this next generation of primary school swimming education. Together, we can make a positive impact on children’s lives. 🌍💙 Express your interest here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e9wYdgm4

Today is #NationalSwimmingPoolDay 🏊 Did you know that 1 in 4 children leave Primary School not being able to swim the statutory 25 meters?! It's feared this could rise to 3 in 5 by 2025-26! Swim:ED is a revolutionary programme for schools that removes barriers such as: 🌟 Lack of access to swimming pools (We bring the pool to you!) 🌟 Staff shortages (We're only likely to need one member of your staff) 🌟 Significant impact on children’s learning time (Removing the need for travel, we ensure children are only out of the classroom for 1 hour, with 45 minutes of that being spent swimming!) Want to know more? Want to register your schools’ interest? Swim on over to our brand-new website to find out more: https://hubs.ly/Q01XgK_t0 or email us: hello@activeme360.com

The Power of Bubbles Did you know that introducing young babies and children to the practice of blowing bubbles in the pool in their early swim classes makes a massive difference in their ability to become independent swimmers? Incorporating bubbles into their swim routine early on helps children develop the essential breathing and buoyancy skills for swimming. It builds their confidence and provides opportunities for experimentation and exploration on their own terms. This helps them feel comfortable in the water and sets the stage for later swimming skills, such as developing streamlined body positions essential for independent swimming. One small step always leads to the more significant steps - the more advanced skills needed for all swim strokes. We should always appreciate the Power of Bubbles in our swim classes. Bubbles are a gateway to success. #swimminglessons #traumfreesubmersions #childdevelopment #swimmngteacher #upskilling
