#Valorisation of fruit waste and peels: resource #generation to resource #utilisation for #circulareconomy Annually, a staggering amount of 1.3 billion tons of fruit goes to #waste globally, with millions of tons being generated from #fruit peels and fruit deemed unfit for consumption. Fruit waste valorization is crucial for #environmental sustainability, #waste management, and resource optimization. It reduces #greenhouse gas emissions by diverting waste from landfills, conserves natural resources, and improves soil and water quality. By extracting #bioactivecompounds and #secondarymetabolites, industries such as pharmaceuticals, #cosmetics, and #food and beverage benefit. Additionally, it contributes to the production of #bioenergy, reducing reliance on #fossilfuels. By #repurposing these discarded materials, we can not only reduce the environmental impact of food waste but also harness valuable #resources. Fruit waste can be converted into #bioenzymes, which have a wide range of #industrial applications, from food processing to #pharmaceuticals, contributing to a more eco-friendly and cost-effective manufacturing process. #Valorizing fruit waste is a multifaceted approach that not only minimizes waste but also maximizes its potential, making it an integral part of a circular economy and sustainable resource management. The same is highlighted in my recently published paper on “Valorisation of Dragonfruit Waste to Value Added Byproduct and Formulations: A Review” in #Critical Reviews in #Biotechnology. Strawberries consistently claim the undesirable top spot on the EWG's Dirty Dozen list as the crop most heavily impacted by pesticides. Their low profile and delicate sweetness render them susceptible to pest damage, and the difficulty of washing them before packing results in excess agrochemicals. Opting for organic strawberries can reduce your exposure, but it's crucial to navigate the nuances of organic certification, alongside considerations like food miles, plastic use, and inconsistent quality. The alternative? Consider growing your own! Explore our blog to learn more 🍓 https://lnkd.in/eZgcDZha
